Is there a basic rule as to how far apart pendants should be placed. I have a large (92″) island and my electrician has suggested only two lights. I don’t want it cluttered, but also do not want it to look underlit.

In the kitchen remodeling business, you see a lot of people making basic mistakes with kitchen lighting design. I really think it takes some experience and expertise to cover the nuances of good, complete, attractive lighting design.
Nice article– I think it gives people a lot to think about before they find the right contractor.

I have been in the building business for over 30 years. We always put a lot of emphasis on the kitchen lighting design. You spend money on all of the amenities in the kitchen and it is important to get the lighting done correctly in order to fully appreciate the kitchen. Sometimes in larger homes we employ a kitchen lighting designer to prepare a plan for the kitchen.
